According to mythological beliefs, this is the city of Kubera. Jains believe that this Nirvana place of Adinath Rishabhdev is 'Ashtapad'. It is said that Rishabhdev traveled to Kailash in eight steps. Followers of Hinduism believe that Mount Kailash is Mount Meru which is the axis of Brahman and it is the main abode of Lord Shankar. Here the right hand of the body of Goddess Sati fell.Hence, a stone rock is worshiped here as its form. There is a Shaktipeeth here. Some people also believe that Guru Nanak also stopped here and meditated for a few days. Therefore it is also a sacred place for Sikhs.
